Our java stout is brewed with a half dozen malts for a layered complexity and then at the end of ferment we added fresh roasted coffee from the Altezano Brothers Roastery out of Auckland.
Altezano Brothers was the local haunt of our brewer Allan when he needed an exceptional coffee and when he reached out to them they were excited for the challenge. Several fresh roasted samples later that we tested and we decided on their Ethiopia, Yirgacheffe single origin coffee from the Wenago Washing Station. Why all this detail? Because it is a fascinating story that taught us so much more about the coffee we love. Altezano Brothers imports their beans directly instead of using a broker and when we researched this found a treasure trove of information that if you are interested you should read about here: https://bootcoffee.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Ethiopian_Coffee_Buying_Guide.pdf
Of course when reading about the beginnings of humans love affair with coffee you should have a can or two of our decadent stout. Also if you are fascinated with the above check out this podcast about Coffee and it's relationship with beer: Sobering Up for The Enlightenmentoffee:
We hope you love this beer as much as we do and explore all about coffee. Cheers!
